The Nautilus Institute is dedicated to pioneering interdisciplinary research and training by bridging the gap between life sciences and social dynamics, aiming to achieve a comprehensive understanding of our complex world.
Our core mission involves utilizing a systems biology approach—modeling the complex interactions and emergent properties of biological systems—and linking this directly to socio-ecological dynamics, studying how group behavior, social structures, and environmental factors influence societal transformations.
This research spans decoding life at the molecular level (including genetics and biophysics) and analyzing the biological basis of social behavior (such as cooperation and conflict). To foster the next generation, we provide in-depth training through Doctoral and Postdoctoral Fellowships, equipping scientists with a modern toolkit that includes computational modeling, molecular genetics, and behavioral analysis, all guided by the philosophy of understanding how complex function and behavior emerge from the dynamic interaction of many components.
